☆彡 APPEARANCE

☆ The first thing you notice about Beast Boy is that everything about him is green. His skin, his hair and his eyes are all slightly different shades of the colour, his short and messy hair being darker than his skin. His ears are long and pointed and he has one long canine tooth that more often than not is visible even if his mouth is shut. He’s rather short and lanky – one of the shortest Titans – and is surprisingly skinny for the work that he does everyday. He wears his old Doom Patrol uniform – a black and purple spandex suit that cuts off at the wrists and ankles – complete with grey gloves, a small silver belt and black and purple Velcro shoes with purple ‘paw print’ soles. He also has a Titans communicator on him, but god knows where he keeps it. His suit doesn’t exactly have pockets (presumably his belt since all belts in superhero universes are capable of holding a myriad of different objects without a logical explanation).

☆彡 PERSONALITY

☆ Beast Boy is incredibly carefree, somewhat scatterbrained and very immature. He’s always cracking really bad jokes to the rest of the team (that usually only Starfire finds funny because she doesn’t quite understand) and has promised that one day he’ll manage to get Raven to smile. He thinks he’s a funny guy, and though the rest of them humour him, his attempts at jokes tend to fall on deaf ears. Terra was one of the only people who found him genuinely funny, much to his delight. He also has a love for playing elaborate practical jokes on Cyborg in particular.
☆ Beast Boy also has a lack of tact, and tends to screw himself over royally a lot of the time. His carefree attitude to life most likely stems from the captain of his previous team, The Doom Patrol, who believed in strict discipline and left no margin for error, or fun. This often left him very timid and unsure of himself, and being with the Titans gives him confidence and allows him to be himself rather than having to suppress his personality. At heart, Beast Boy is a dedicated and loving friend and would be the first one to rush in and help, and the last to abandon you. Beast Boy is a strict vegan, and refuses to eat anything that he can turn into. He’s constantly trying to persuade the rest of the team to adopt his culinary tastes as well, but this often causes some disputes – especially with Cyborg since he loves all things ‘Meaty’.

☆彡 ABILITIES

☆ Beast Boy has rather a literal name in that can shapeshift into any animal he sees. Dinosaurs, amoeba and alien creatures included. When he’s transformed he takes the skills and strengths of that particular animal. For example, if he was a cheetah he could run really fast, if he was a gorilla he could have immense strength and if he was a bloodhound he could follow a trail of a criminal. The only things that are different about his shapeshifting and the original animal is that every animal he turns into is green, like him and also has the same snagglefang. He can also talk when he is in other forms, but chooses not to most of the time since he’s usually fighting and needs to look threatening. He can also shift from one form to another very quickly and without the need to return to his original form.
☆ In Manhattan, Beast Boy will still retain his shape shifting abilities, however the further away the form is from his original size, the more difficult it’ll be to maintain. For example, something really big like a dinosaur would be incredibly difficult to maintain and he would only be able to keep that form for mere seconds. The same would happen with something very small. This lack of control of the length of time of his shifts will tire him out and the more shifts he does the more exhausted he’ll be until a point as to when he can’t shift anymore that day. He will also be unable to shift into Clover or Crab creatures. Beast Boy is also a master of video games, a decent hacker, and can show leadership and intellectual qualities in a jam.

☆彡 WEAKNESSES

☆ The main weakness of Beast Boy, when powers is concerned, is that with his power he can get tired. The others don’t seem to understand it since they assume if Beast Boy can fly he’ll be fine. His powers do stem from his own strength, and like you would get tired after running a mile, so does Beast Boy. Beast Boy is not all that bright either, and has a lack of tact, which leads to him often putting his foot in his mouth, and screwing himself over. His ex-team mate Terra is also a touchy subject, and he has a major weakness for her. This can lead to outbursts of a rather nasty temper that only really surfaces when Terra is involved. Beast Boy was really close to Terra – he knew her better than all of the other Titans – and was in love with her. He would try and do anything to get her back. Beast Boy is also easily affected by hypnotism, brainwashing and other mind attacks.

☆彡 HISTORY

☆ When Beast Boy was a child, he fell ill with the Lakutia virus after being bitten by a rare green monkey. In an attempt to cure him, his parents used an untested serum, which resulted in Beast Boy gaining his shape shifting abilities. His parents died later on in a flood, leaving Beast Boy as an orphan. Sometime after this, Beast Boy broke into the headquarters of the Doom Patrol – a team of superheroes that consisted of Mento, Robotman, Negative Man and Elasti-girl – in a bid to try and get them to accept him as a member. Impressed by his skills in evading their capture, Beast Boy was given membership.
☆ After resigning from the Doom Patrol, Beast Boy helped the Boy Wonder, Robin, and a few other teens rescue an alien from being forced into becoming a servant and they soon became a close-knit group of superhero teenagers, the Teen Titans. Together they took down many villains in Jump City and grew both as crimefighters and as friends – Beast Boy becoming very close to Cyborg who shared his love of video games and movies – only strengthening the team. Even after an apparent betrayal to the criminal mastermind Slade by Robin, the rest of the team never gave up on him and ended up saving him from his fate as Slade’s apprentice.
☆ The Titans then met the young girl Terra, who could move the earth but who had a secret. Beast Boy developed a small crush on her, and spent a lot of time with her. This was how he discovered that she could not control her powers and she made him promise not to tell anyone. He agreed, and the team decided to offer a place permanently on the team to Terra. Robin then made the mistake about mentioning her lack of control – he noticed it on his own – and Terra, angered at Beast Boy’s apparent betrayal, ran. Slade, who had been watching all of this, showed a lot of interest in Terra, and sought her out, offering to train her in exchange that she became his spy and worked for him. She accepted, desperate for control, and turned up later on in control of her powers and wanting to come back to the team. Beast Boy and Starfire were overjoyed, and for a while Terra was back on the team, much to Raven’s disapproval. Before long, the Terra had gained the Titan’s full trust and she was a valued member of the team. The infatuation that Beast Boy had with Terra blossomed into a romantic relationship, but during a date with her the Titans tower was infiltrated by Slade’s robot ninja, and Slade attacked Beast Boy, revealing that Terra was actually a spy, and had betrayed them. Angered by this, Beast Boy attacks viciously Slade, refusing to believe it. Terra then told him that it was the truth and Beast Boy, feeling betrayed and angered, demanded to know why, and when an insufficient answer was offered, Beast Boy told Terra that Slade was right and she didn’t have any friends. Terra then left with Slade, leaving Beast Boy broken hearted.
☆ When Terra returned, she was a fully fledged apprentice of Slade’s and attacked the Titans with intent to destroy them, following Slade’s orders. She almost succeeds and on a second onslaught by the Titans, flees battle and returns to Slade who attacks her for disobeying direct orders and, using the specially designed suit that tapped into her nervous system, started to control her every move. Beast Boy finds her and Slade, and tries to convince her that she always had a choice in the matter and Terra overpowers Slade and ultimately receives redemption for betrayal by defeating Slade and saving the city from a volcanic eruption – at the cost of her life as the process turned her into stone. Beast Boy still retains strong feelings for her even after her death, and would do anything to get her back.
☆ Later, during a fight against the villain Adonis, Beast Boy was exposed to an experimental DNA compound which awoke some deep primal instinct within him. It caused a drastic change in his behaviour and he started to act strange and got very temperamental. Robin soon has had enough of him, and tells him to leave, to which Beast Boy gets very angry about causing him to transform into a werewolf-like beast. Adonis, who was also exposed to the same compound, comes back to finish Raven off, and Beast Boy protects her – but the Titans suspect that Beast Boy was the one who kidnapped her since they had had an argument before he transformed. Eventually Beast Boy is cleared, Adonis is defeated and Cyborg gives Beast Boy an antidote and he goes back to normal. He tells Raven that he can still feel it the beast within him, and Raven says that it’s a good thing, and that having it inside of him didn’t make him an animal, but instead knowing when to use it made him a man. Beast Boy has only ever used this form once after this incident, and that was during a particularly difficult fight. Beast Boy doesn’t like using this form and will only do so when there are no other choices.
☆ Much later on, Beast Boy gets a distress signal from his old team, The Doom Patrol. The Titans answer it to discover that Beast Boy’s old enemies, The Brotherhood of Evil, had captured the majority of his team. With the help of Robotman and the rest of the Titans, Beast Boy breaks the rest of the team out, and Mento decides to take Beast Boy on one last mission to destroy The Brotherhood of Evil once and for all. Beast Boy soon remembers the reason he resigned from The Doom Patrol, as Mento leaves his comrades behind to continue the mission, with intent not to. The rest of the Titans turn up with the lost comrades to help and during the fight Mento gives Beast Boy an order to stop The Brain, which he ignores in the preference to get everyone to safety. The Brotherhood of Evil escape, much to Mento’s anger. Beast Boy and The Doom Patrol then part ways. The Brotherhood of Evil start to begin to target young heroes, and so Robin decides to hand out communicators to all the honorary titans and so they take a long journey around the globe to do so.
☆ After months of fighting The Brotherhood of Evil, the Titans start to head back to Jump City before a world wide call for help from all the young heroes is sent out, causing the Titans to split up to help their friends. The Brotherhood of Evil captured a lot of the young heroes, and Beast Boy is forced to retreat. He forms a makeshift team from the honorary titans who escaped the Brotherhood’s clutches, and storms the headquarters, showing leadership and strategising, and manages to rescue his fellow Titans and twart The Brotherhood of Evil once and for all leading the combined strength of all those who had been captured.
☆ The Titans then headed back to Jump City, and relaxed a bit (fighting the odd villain or two of course) but Beast Boy didn’t get much of a break, as one morning, he woke up in a unfamiliar setting – Manhattan.
